Maths Task #2 - Rounding And Compesating

Welcome bloggers.
During this week for maths I have been focusing on my gal which is:
Rounding and Compensating : Use a broad range of strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems with whole numbers & decimals
When doing this task you could complete two goals, you could complete a level 3 goal and a level 4 goal. But I have already greened off my level 3 goal so I'm just working on level 4 for now.
The differences between the different goals is that the level 3 would just be with normal numbers but the level 4 has decimals.
I decided to do both in this drawing.

To complete this task we were given 16 different maths questions that we had to figure out the answers to. Some were decimals and some weren't.
After you've done that you had to make a DLO - Digital, Learning, Object - with two of the questions you have picked from the sixteen questions that are there and show/explain how you worked them out.

Here's my DLO:

What's another strategy that you could use to solve these questions, and how?

Writing Task #2 - Information Report Template

Hey everybody.
Welcome to my newest blog Post.
For writing this week my goal was:
Plan effectively, when appropriate, using a variety of strategies.
To complete this task we first had to make a Venn Diagram of the differences and similarities of information reports and Narratives.

Venn Diagram:

Next we had to create our own template for an information report.
I tried to make this as creative as I could without making it too complicated.

Template:

What's a similarity between information reports and Narratives that you don't think I have covered?

6 C's Communication

Welcome everybody, to my blog.
So as you may know in our PBL groups we have been working on the 6 C's and the last of the three 6 C's that I've talked to you about is Communication.

To complete this task we had to get together with another group and sit in a big circle.....
Then we had to nominate two people to go up to the teacher.
My group nominated my friend Maia and I. So after that we went up to the teacher and she showed us a picture of some rubix cubes stacked in a certain shapes with certain colours. I memorised one side of the shape and Maia memorised the other. (The rest of the group couldn't see the picture).
We went to the box of rubix cubes and got the colours we needed to make the shape. Then we went to our groups and had to communicate to them how to make it without us touching anything. They made it as fast as they could and we went up to the teacher and she checked it off.

Anyway, my definition of communication would be that it's a way of talking and relating to eachother. When your communicating your sending and/or receiving information in some way or form.
Communication is a big part of being in a group or team, it's a way of understanding each other and everyone's point of view.

Whats your definition of communication?
Why do you think communication is important?

Literacy Task #2

Hello Bloggers and welcome to my world of learning.
Here I am showing you my literacy/reading task for the week. We had to create a timeline about what happened with the Maori and British people over the years. This is based of our PBL because we are learning about New Zealand and the Treaty of Waitangi.
Our goal for reading was: Think while reading, pick up new information, and come up with new ideas and new thinking.

Here is my Follow up task:
Do you know anything else that happened during this time between the Maori and British People?
How do you think the treaty relates to how we live now?

Thanks for reading my blog, hope you come back to see more!!
What new things have you learnt after reading this timeline?
What stuff did you already know?

Creativity task PBL

Welcome bloggers, back to my world.
Today we have learnt about one of the 6 C's, during my last blog we talked about collaboration but today we are going to talk about creativity.
Being creative is a key part that needs to shine through our PBL project for the school fair.
A few tasks we needed to do was:
Write 100 ways you could use a paper clip. In the end we were told that we had to do at least over fifty so we did fifty two. Some of the creative ideas we came up with was carving a pumpkin or making fine details with nail polish.
Another task we had to do was on paper. We had four circles and four squares. Some of the things I drew was the earth for the circle and a rubix cube for a square.
What ideas can you come up with for a square or circle?
We also did a reflection and one of the questions for the reflection was what kind of thinker am I?
I personally like to think that I am quite a creative person, I always look forward to art and if there's any chance to take a challenge with creativity involved, I am usually all for it. Although to me being creative does not mean you have to have a really steady hand or be a good artist, it's just about being imaginative and speaking your mind.

How would you describe the word Creative?

PBL Collaboration

Hello everybody
For this post I will be talking about one of our schools 6 C's - Collaboration.
In our class we have been talking about how we could collaborate better together as a group. Here are some of the things we are focusing on doing:
  • Have highly developed social and emotional skills and an ability to communicate across a range of different people
  • Have a good understanding of different points of view, express their viewpoints and empathise, listen and learn from others
  • Make important decisions that take into consideration different perspectives and the mutual benefit of the group
There are a few more but one in particular that I personally think I need to work on is the first one I have listed. The reason for this is because everybody acts differently in different situations and has different personalities. I feel like this is something I would love to work towards because it won't only help me at school and with my PBL, it'll help me in just everyday life.

Something I feel like I have done well is:
  • Make important decisions that take into consideration different perspectives and the mutual benefit of the group
Although I can always improve and that I will take everything on board, I feel like this is the goal that I have probably done the most efficiently.

What does collaboration mean to you?
