Speech Writing #3

Kia ora everyone, here is another part of my speech that I am currently writing.

I have picked one of my favourite paragraphs that I have written so far to share with you.

Here is is:

Let's make a difference, we can do this, from schools to parliament, let's make a wave of action and goodness to positively affect this world.Imagine living in a world where classrooms were stacked up with books and education was free.

Imagine living in a life where everybody had clear access to a bus or free transportation and there are multiple boarding schools throughout each city.

Imagine living in a world where every child or even just human, was able to go through life where they were taught properly and were guided well enough to provide help to the generation to come.

Hope you find that piece of writing interesting and maybe even a bit persuasive, but if you have any questions or feedback feel free to say in the comments.

What is one way you can think of that would help these problems?

Speech Planning - Part two

Kia Ora everyone, here is my writing task done for this week.

We basically had to just write the second paragraph for our speech. But I have now properly decided on what I am basing my speech on and it is - Making school affordable for everyone and decreasing the amount of poverty

Here is my Draft:

57,000,000

A strangely big number, am I right?

Could you imagine sitting there, not being able to move forward in life, because you know that your education was not efficient enough to give you a well deserved career?

Let me reiterate this number, 57,000,000, that's how many kids have to miss out on an education and a bright future. It's unbelievable to imagine that instead of being where you are today you could be like those people, sitting at home, looking for some leftover scraps in the cupboard, all because you weren’t qualified enough to get a proper, well paid job.

Overwhelmed, that's how you should feel, listening to this, because I’m telling you now that this is one big, world wide challenge that needs all of us if something was going to even change the slightest.

Now, now is the time to change this, now is the time to realise that we are facing a huge crisis that will affect our future and the generation to come. You can make a change, put yourself out there and let people know that you are willing to help them.

Hope you like how I have started my plan, what are some more world wide problems that you could think of?

Speech Planning - Equal Education

Hello everyone.

Here is my blog post and I am going to show you my current planning for my speech coming up.

(Also this is my task for Writing)

I am focusing on people's education and how unfair the costs are.

There are also lot's of little problems below so take a look:

Quality education

  • We do not have many people raising their hand to help out and tutor let alone teach.

  • Disabled people and people who are just struggling to learn are not getting enough attention

  • It is about improving people's lives and preparing them for a future, it has been proven that the quality of your education has a huge impact on your future career.

  • Volunteer to tutor

  • Raise awareness about how having an equal amount of education is important

  • We need to ensure that everybody has an opportunity to have a good education or even have an education at all.

Rhetorical Questions

  • A strangely big number, am I right?

  • Could you imagine sitting there, not being able to move forward in life, because you know that your education was not efficient enough to give you a well deserved career?

Probably not, you may be sitting here wondering..

Thanks for looking at the start of my speech and I hope it shows you where I am hoping to head with this task.

What are some other things you could focus your speech on? (Another problem)

Writing - Hansel & Gretel Plot 2

Hello everybody this is my writing blog for the week!

I have split the google drawing in half because I thought it would be easier to read that way.
Anyways this is my second part of the Hansel and Gretel story, I have tried to use some interesting vocabulary such as:

"The room was giving me sour vibes."
Or
"Melting marshmallows."

What do you think will happen next?

Kia ora, thanks for checking out my blog.

For my first writing task for this term we have been rewriting the start of the book Hansel & Gretel. We also have been focusing on the Fantastic's just like my reading.

We looked at a few different writing methods such as repetition for effect, adjectives and similes. We have also been making sentences that have things to do with tasting and smelling (basically all the senses).

Finished Task:

How would you describe the taste of your favourite lolly?

Narrative - Starting

Kia ora everybody, today I am going to present to you the start of my Narrative.
I have based it around a young girl named Lana.

Hopefully I will be able to give you the ending soon but for the start I would like you to help me picture what could come next it the story.

This wasn't really based on a goal so here you go:

The Painting

“Lana,” called my mother, “Come here I’ve got something for you.”
I slowly plugged towards the kitchen with a very tired but curious look on my face then stopped half way and then shouted, “What is it?”
She replied with, “You’ll have to come into the kitchen to see.”
I wasn’t really expecting much considering that every other present she had given me were these really creepy dolls that would stare at me day and night. It would only take a few days until I threw it out without my mother noticing. Although as I finally got to the kitchen I saw my mum standing there carefully holding up an old antique painting, yet it had something strange about it that made me not sure whether I liked it or not.

She carefully handed it to me and I took it by the frame which was blanketed by dust and tiny bits of hair. As I took it back down the hallway to put it up on my wall I still had this strange feeling like something wasn’t right.
Although as I was about to enter my room I heard my mother loudly explain, “I’ll buy a new frame soon so you’ll have to wait to change the frame tomorrow.”
“Fine,” I replied, actually feeling relieved because it was one less job for that day.

That night I couldn’t get to sleep, no matter how hard I tried. So had I just lay there, staring at the painting wondering what made it so different. Let me describe it to you, it almost looked like a magical rainforest. I could almost feel the wind created from the big leaves in the painting brushing against my skin and the raindrops dripping off the trees and onto my head. After a while of visualising I quietly dozed asleep but after a few hours I woke up to the deafening sound of a police car siren whizzing past my house. I turned my side light on to see what time it was on the clock, only to notice that the painting had changed.
It wasn’t all bright and calming at all, it was more dangerous and mysterious, dark and scary and not a place I would like to be.

As I slowly got up to take a closer look at the painting I had felt shivers down my spine and heard noises in my head saying, “don’t go, don’t touch it.”

Yet again I had this urge to go towards it, like it was pulling me in. I finally had the guts to walk up towards it although as I was getting closer my heart beat louder. When I got to my destination I carefully put my hand out and began to stroke the painting but as I got half way through a violent and cold gust of wind came right at my face strongly pushing my bushy hair back. I closed my eyes trying to hold my position as the wind grew stronger and stronger until I couldn’t feel it any longer.......

That's the end for now, comment any ideas.

Where could she be?

Writing - Different sentence structures

Hey everyone, for this blog I will be showing you my writing task.
The goal was..
Goal: Level 4 - Use a variety of sentences structures, beginnings and lengths to give effect.

Hope you enjoy my story! :)

“I’ve never liked the beach, even the thought of it makes me shiver. The sand scraping and scratching your legs, the taste of sea salt in your mouth and even just the horrifying smell of BO mixed with sunscreen surrounding you.”
I just don’t get how people can stand to be around that, like, AT ALL. How can’t you hate having waves smashed into your face or have the feeling that a shark is going to aggressively bite off your leg out of the blue.

Anyway, I think my point has been heard, although I still don’t feel like it is being listened to, so let me tell you a story about the most traumatising experience of my life.

If you didn’t already guess, my name is Emma and I DON’T like the water. Here is one out of a million reasons why...

My brother's name is Eric, although if you looked at us you wouldn’t think we are siblings, if you heard us, you wouldn’t think we are siblings. But if you saw and heard us fight then you would straight away, ABSOLUTELY, think we are siblings.
So anyways, on with the story.
We were on our way to Eric's mid year surfing competition and I was not happy, even though I was eleven years old I was the most loud and obnoxious kid you would ever meet.
Looking back at it now I feel bad for my parents who had to put up with it for my whole life. We had finally got to the beach and I had finally given up because even my own ears couldn’t handle the noise.
Usually I would sit in the car for an hour and a half on my ipod and would have already snuck some food and lollies in my pocket beforehand. Although this time was different, I was so busy making such a big fuss about going that I had forgotten to bring all my food and electronics along with me.
I was really desperate to not let the food out on the beach sidetrack me from my mission which was to stay away from the beach at any cost because I could already feel the itchy sand on my legs and smell the horrible stench of the sunscreen.
I always thought that being able to stay away from the beach for the many years I had was a strength, (which it was) but turns out, besides my strengths there will always be a weakness, and mine was…..FOOD!!!

I had to think up the perfect way to go out there without my parents seeing me, but without thinking and in desperate need of food I ran, I ran and I ran and I RAN. I managed to grab a sausage without anyone noticing and then as I was sprinting back, to my luck I saw my brother Eric sprinting beside me. He grabbed my arm and took us both to a halt, trying to act pleasant he exclaimed, “you’re running the wrong way.” He managed to pull me all the way back to my parents and before I knew it I was in my togs about to get ready to learn how to surf on the other side of the beach.

“I was really nervous.” I mean I was being forced into my biggest fear of my life. Just to let you know I had already given up fighting, my arms had been aggressively pulled back and the rest of my body was getting dragged into the water. Although don’t get me wrong, I am probably over exaggerating and my parents did do this out of excitement.
Next thing I know I’m in the deepest water I have ever been in and had a humongous and strong wave coming right for me.
My heart was racing and my head was pounding, I almost felt like I was going to faint. But I woke up to the sound of my dad screaming at me to get on my board and start paddling back towards the wave. I turned with the thought of being able to swim back.
“By the way I have always been an average  swimmer but obviously never had the confidence to do it.”
Anyways back with the story, so I had looked to see how far out I was but again my dad had interrupted my thoughts and shouted, “there’s no time, get ready!”

I flipped back around to see the wave rapidly coming towards me and started paddling, although, I was  too late..
“THRASH,” a wave came trembling over my face, I couldn’t breath, I had all of a sudden swallowed a big gulp of water. My eyes were squinted, my arm and legs were struggling to grab a hold of my board. I finally have my board in my hands and attempt to tuck it under my legs, get my body on top of it with the water pushing me down. I managed to pull myself up on top of the water to take a breath and then lucky enough another wave comes, this time it’s so hard that it slammed my head onto my board and from there the rest of the story is a mystery.
Then the next thing I know, I am lying on the beach with my family surrounding me, lifeguards, and paramedics hovering over me.

And that's my story, I ended up getting over the faze of hating water though and am living a great life with a knowing fact, that life is a roller coaster, be prepared for anything.

Hope you liked it, thanks for reading.

Do you like the sea? Why or why not?

Blinding Mirror - Narrative Writing

Hey guys.
Today on this blog I will be showing you my narrative piece of writing.
We were given four different pictures to choose from and to base our story on.
We also had to have between 250 - 300 words in our story.
I used 299 words but it took a whole lot of cutting words out to do it - (I started off with 419 words)

The teachers didn't really give us a specific goal to work on this week but they said if they find any writing goals that they think we've ticked off from this piece of writing, that they would tick it off.

Anyway here's my piece of writing...

Hope you enjoyed.

What other describing words would you use to explain how the field looked when she went through the mirror.

Writing Poems

Hey, welcome back.
Today I'm going to share with you my writing task for the week, my goal was:
Select words and phrases to enhance meaning and/or mood and confidently shape ideas for effect.

In the workshop we were learning about a type of poem called a Diamante Poem. We watched a few videos about them and then watched a video on what makes a poem a poem.

I decided to write two diamante poems and also had to write another random poem. Being honest on my other poem Stranded, it was going to be a limerick but then I sought of just carried on and made a structure of my own.
I ended up writing my diamante poems about Night & Day and also Hockey & Dance because those are two things I can relate to so I can make the words more interesting.

You do not need to make your poem about two different things it could be about sought of the same things just with a change of word, such as Dog & Puppy.

When we were in our second workshop we talked about meaningful words in our poems and why they would create mood. I ended up choosing Storytelling, Mysterious & Golden. I chose these because I felt like they added depth to the poem and went further than your average words.

Next I writ my definition of a poem, I didn't need to do this just like I didn't need to do the second diamante poem but I felt like putting something else extra in.
You may not be able to read it clearly from the picture so I'll just put it here:

My Definition of a Poem:

A poem can be known as a form of speech, a form of words, a form of music and even a form of art. It can’t be defined by just one of these things, it’s never limited.
A poem’s about being creative and sharing a piece of your mind, or someone else's mind and editing it with your own language and changing it with your own thoughts.
A poem could even be about a story, it’s about finding the deepest parts and turning it into something intriguing to listen to, read, and even see.
When you write a poem it’s about expressing new ideas or feelings and finding the most meaningful and heartfelt words to show.

And that’s how I’d define the word Poem

How would you describe a poem and what makes a poem a poem?

Writing Task - Complex Sentences

Hi bloggers, today I give you my writing task for this week.

My goal is...
Use complex sentences that are grammatically correct / proofread for spelling, grammar and punctuation.

For this task we got to do some fun things such as playing with independent clauses and Dependent clauses.

The way we did this is that first everybody had to write down an independent clause, next you had to go after somebody else's clause and write an independent clause.
We did the same with the depended clauses.

Some of the sentences we came up with were..

I found a bug - it was tasty.

I watered my fish - but it had already drowned.

As you can probably see we were trying to be creative with the sentences and just have a bit of fun.

Next we had to write a short story with at least four complex sentences throughout it. Besides that you could just have four complex sentences and that could be your whole story.

I decided to change it up a little though so here's my create task:

What's the difference between a compound sentence and a complex sentence?

Writing - Revising and editing

"Hey bloggers."
For the writing task from this week our goal was....
Goal:
Revise and rework writing for clarity, impact and purpose. proofread for spelling, grammar and punctuation.

To complete this task I watch quite a few videos and it they really help me understand the true meaning of even the simplest punctuation.
While doing this I learnt about revising and editing, I even learnt about the phrase ARMS. I have written about that down below in my DLO.

Next we had to edit a paragraph in our PBL reports to make it better and more interesting to read. We also just had to overall make sure that we were using the best possible types of punctuation.

I have written down 3 thing that I have learnt and/or think are important when writing or revising.
Here is my DLO:

What's another thing that is important when it comes to writing?

Punctuation DLO - Writing

WELCOME BACK.
To my first writing blog of TERM 2.
In my writing workshop we have been looking at more complex punctuation such as those extra things like dashes and semicolon's. And although part of it was about that, other parts of it was about just remembering the simple things like full stops and capital letters, reminding us what their use is and how their so important.

We all watched a few videos out of the selection we had and then hat to change some sentences punctuation from our information report.

Our goal was: Attempt more complex punctuation

Here's my working:

I hoped you enjoyed this blog post, make sure you come back to see more fun learning!!

Why do you think trying more complex punctuation is important?

Writing Task #2 - Information Report Template

Hey everybody.
Welcome to my newest blog Post.
For writing this week my goal was:
Plan effectively, when appropriate, using a variety of strategies.
To complete this task we first had to make a Venn Diagram of the differences and similarities of information reports and Narratives.

Venn Diagram:

Next we had to create our own template for an information report.
I tried to make this as creative as I could without making it too complicated.

Template:

What's a similarity between information reports and Narratives that you don't think I have covered?

Writing Task #1

Hello everyone.
This is my first writing task for 2020.
This task is about selecting words and phrases to enhance meaning and/or mood. This is also my goal for this task.
I have written my instructions about my PBL project which I have called the dance mat, but talking about my PBL is for another blog post.
I have also done two exercises to make the word better and enhance the mood into a happy mood.

Here's my work:
Q. What's three other ways to say the word Great?
Feel free to ask questions.
