Maths - Angles

Kia ora, this week for maths we have been working on angles.

The Goal was: Use appropriate scales, devices, and metric units for measuring angles.

This is what I had to do:

      

Task 1) Pick a flag and investigate some of the following:-

You may like to draw this out on paper or put in on a google drawing. If you’d like it printed, email it to me before Morning Tea.

What shapes can you see in it?  

There is a cross, two very stretched wide triangles and then two other triangles on the left and right.

Can you describe them and their angles?

The cross is more stretched width ways then length. The triangles at the top and the bottom are also stretched more width ways. Then there are also those two triangles on the side that are almost symmetrical but one point is just a smidge more longer than the others.

Does the flag have any lines of reflective symmetry, if so how many lines?

There is a lot of symmetry in this flag from to bottom and even from left to right. Both the black and the green triangles reflect again on the opposite direction.

Can you find any pairs of parallel lines?  If so mark them on your flag.

There are some lines parallel to each other but they’re on an angle. Here they are:

Are there any lines perpendicular to one another?

No, not that I can tell.

Task 2)

On a doc/drawing or slide collate a range of pictures showing angles in the real world - think creatively they are literally everywhere!

Cantamath W2

 Talofa lava everybody, his week some of us have been trying out for the cantamath team.

Since I have already talked about cantamath in the past math blog but this week we did something different.

Instead of trialling in teams we did it individually and we got given a sheet full of questions that we had to answer, some were much more challenging then others. Although I think it was good because I felt like I had a range of different questions to try and solve.

Cantamath

 Kia ora everyone, welcome to my blog.

So you may be wondering why I haven't been posting many maths blogs lately and that is because I have been working on cantamath for the past two weeks. 

One of the questions we had to figure out was:

What is the sum up to 50?

This got the whole class thinking but by the time people got to that question the timer ended and we all had to go back to the classroom. But me and a friend decided to prepare for questions like that and we came up with a way to solve questions like this a little faster.

Maths Task - Ratios

Kia Ora, here is my maths for the week!

We were doing ratios and I decided to do the second question. It was about tree stumps and how much they would cost with a discount.

I definitely know that I could've done this better and more efficient for example, I could've used Standard written form.

Maths Task - Area & Perimeter

Hello!!
My maths task this week had two different questions that you can choose from and I just did both because I had time.

In the first one we were learning about the perimeter and area of the backfield and then we tried it with and without different things such as the hall.

The next one was about the amount of people n our Kaupeka hub compared to the rest of the school. Turns out that our hub is more that one fifth of the whole school.

Shapes & Nets - Maths Task

Hello everyone, here is my maths blog for this week.

We were learning about shapes and nets and I have been focusing on two different goals.

Goal 1)  Level 4 - Relate 3D models to 2D representations, and vice versa

Goal 2) Level 4 - Identify and sort 2D and 3D shapes into classes. Define the properties of the shapes and justify the decisions made.

Q1:
a. Her net was right and I know because I tested it and it made what she wanted it to
b. I could also work in the shape below. (in the shape of a W)


Q2:
a. Her half a net was correct and I managed to make it

Geometry & Measurement #2

Hello everyone.
During this blog I am going to show you my maths DLO that I have been working on for this week.

I have been focusing on Geometry and Measurement, I have been carrying it on from last week.
Although I have been working on different goals such as perimeter and area.

Maths DLO - Geometry and Measurement

Kia ora everyone.
Thanks for coming and checking my blog for the day, if you didn't already know I was working on geometry and measurement for my maths.

We didn't have one specific goal that we were working on because we had like seven different goals that we could choose to complete.
These are the types of ones I completed:

- Area
- Volume
- Temperature
- Mass
- Length

Maths Blog - Different strategy's

Kia ora everybody.
For my maths workshop this week my goal was...
Goal: Level 4 - Use an efficient strategy to solve a broad range of strategies to solve multiplication and division problems with whole numbers & decimals.

 Our task was to complete some strategies and then make a video showing how you completed only two of the strategies. We tried to use some methods that we had not used before or recently, one strategy that I used (that I don't use often) was standard written form.

Maths Ws - Scatter Sheet/Chart/Graph

Welcome, everybody, to my blog.
For my maths this week we were learning how to make a scatter chart.

Level 4 -  Complete a Statistical Investigation

Maths - Two way tables

Hey everyone.
So for my final blog post for this week I will be showing you my maths task that I've been working on.
We were basically learning about two way tables, we had to write at least three claims about them then in our workshop we would talk about the claims and turn them into percentages.

I haven't got all the percentages on here but you could always try to figure out another ways to write the claims but with percentages added in.

Anyways, my question was about girls and boys favourite type of jump in athletics - high jump or long jump.

I decided to make up the numbers so they were totally random.

Maths - Tree Diagrams

Kia ora everybody.

For my maths for this week we have been learning about tree diagrams and how tom make them on diagrams.net.
We also learnt some easier ways to solve problems using them.

I solved three problems, one was about a handball game, another was about three chocolate bars, and the last one is about a number plate.

I also did a 3 min screencastify on the number plate one and how I worked it out.

(That's not the same order in the slides).

Maths T2 W2 Statistics/Graph/Data

Hello everyone, thanks for coming to check out my blog.
This is my maths task for this week.
Our goal was to...
Goal: Complete a statistical investigation by collecting, discussing and displaying data.
We were given two different choices to base our graph on, there was NZ Covid 19 cases or yr 7/8 data.
I chose yr 7/8 data and from the data that was given to me, I chose to do it on the genders and eye colours. Here is the result from my data:

Maths Task Tessellations

Hi guys, I'm so glad to be back and be doing some online learning!!
So the first task I have completed for this week has been my maths task, therefore that's what I would like to show you in this post.

As you may know from the title, we have been introduced to Tessellations. Our goal is:
Goal: Identify and use the features of a figure that do not change (invariant properties) as it is reflected, rotated, translated or enlarged.

We had to watch some videos to get the right understanding about what tessellations really were and the rules that go along with them.
A tessellation is a shape that can be repeated by itself and connect with no gaps. The three rules for tessellations are:
1. Translation
2. Rotation
3. Glide reflection
Basically you have to have on of these rules in your shape if you were to create a tessellation. So the shape must be able to connect with itself.

We also used Jamboard to answer some questions and gather together what Tessellations really means.

Maths Task #2 - Rounding And Compesating

Welcome bloggers.
During this week for maths I have been focusing on my gal which is:
Rounding and Compensating : Use a broad range of strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems with whole numbers & decimals
When doing this task you could complete two goals, you could complete a level 3 goal and a level 4 goal. But I have already greened off my level 3 goal so I'm just working on level 4 for now.
The differences between the different goals is that the level 3 would just be with normal numbers but the level 4 has decimals.
I decided to do both in this drawing.

To complete this task we were given 16 different maths questions that we had to figure out the answers to. Some were decimals and some weren't. 
After you've done that you had to make a DLO - Digital, Learning, Object - with two of the questions you have picked from the sixteen questions that are there and show/explain how you worked them out.

Maths Task #1 - 2D/3D Relationships

Hi bloggers.
For this post I would like to show you the final product of my maths task.
What we were learning about was the relationship between 2D and 3D shapes and what's different about them.
Also I found that in some 3D shapes that aren't even could look very different from different angles. 
We also had to make a 3D shape and then make the net of it which is on the right hand side of the poster.
